What is permanent outdoor lighting?

Permanent outdoor lighting is a track-mounted system of individually addressable RGBW pixels installed once, usually under the eaves and along gables, and left in place year round.

How the system works A slim aluminum channel is fastened along the roofline. Pixels sit inside that channel facing down or out, wired back to a low-voltage power supply and a controller. Because each pixel is addressable, the same run can produce plain warm white on a Tuesday and a full holiday animation in December.

How it differs from light strings Seasonal strings are hung and removed each year, which means annual labor cost, ladder risk and storage. Permanent systems shift that cost forward: one installation, then app control for years.

What drives the price Linear footage is the biggest factor, followed by roof complexity, number of stories, and how much of the wiring must be concealed. Multi-structure properties and commercial facades add controller and power supply capacity.

Questions worth asking Ask any installer how the channel is fastened, where the transformer lives, what the workmanship warranty covers, and whether app commissioning is included before the crew leaves.
