How much does permanent outdoor lighting cost?

A plain-language look at pricing by linear footage, roof complexity and system tier.

Published Sep 17, 2026

Pricing for permanent outdoor lighting is usually quoted per linear foot of installed track, with adjustments for access and complexity.

Start with linear footage Measure the eaves, gables and peaks you actually want lit. Most homes land between 120 and 300 feet. Estates and multi-structure properties can run well past 400 feet.

Complexity multipliers Steep pitches, three-story elevations, dormers, cut-up rooflines and hidden wire runs all increase labor hours. A simple single-story ranch and a complex two-story with six dormers can differ substantially at the same footage.

System tier Entry-level consumer hardware costs less up front. Dealer-installed systems generally carry heavier channel, better sealing and longer coverage. Neither is automatically right — it depends on how long you plan to stay in the home.

What should be in the quote Footage, channel color, pixel count, power supply and controller locations, concealment method, app commissioning, workmanship warranty length, and what happens if a pixel fails in year three.
